Naturally glowing skin, skin that doesn’t need makeup to look good, skin that’s flawless without a single dark spot, blemishes, pigmentation and other signs of ageing and skin trauma. I think that’s something we would all want to have, but it’s likely also all that we don’t work (eat) to have.
I can’t stress enough on how important is what you eat because that is what your body is going to absorb. And if you’re going to put in that cheesy pasta with extra butter, expect that to show on your skin. If you truly want your skin, to be glowing you have to feed it food that your skin needs not the food that you think you need.
Naturally glowing skin, is the direct result of a healthy body. These 10 foods will not only keep you healthy, they will make your skin glow naturally!
BeetRoot
I believe we all know that beetroot is a root vegetable of purple-red colour, but not all of us know why does beetroot have this particular hue. This deep red hue comes from a very powerful antioxidant and its name is betacyanin. Beetroot also contains silica which is healthy for a naturally glowing skin, strong bones, tendons, and ligaments.
Apart from that beetroot also packs potassium, calcium, phosphorous, iodine, iron, copper, vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B6, and C), carotene and folic acid. All these make beetroot your skin’s life blood and helps to balance your skin’s natural oils and keep it clear.
Zucchini
This one is a storehouse of vitamins and antioxidants, making it a perfect choice for giving you a naturally glowing skin.
Did you know?
Botanically zucchini is classified in the fruit family yet it’s eaten as a vegetable. Zucchini is a highly water-filled vegetable. It packs vitamins like C and A which are ideal for a naturally glowing skin. Zucchinis are also packed with copper, manganese and magnesium.
Zucchinis are rich in lutein, which is an antioxidant. The rind of zucchinis are particularly rich in beta-carotene and hence it makes for an ideal choice of food for your skin.
‘S’ for Sprouts And Skin
Known as Usal in some parts of India, are rich in minerals, enzymes, vitamins and protein. Their nutritional importance, however, was discovered first by the Chinese. And there’s a very particular riddle based on them:
What requires neither soil nor sunshine and is yet rich in vitamins and minerals, is not subjected to chemical sprays while growing, is economical and does not go waste in preparation, grows anywhere and rivals meat in its nutritional values, even indoors with a little space, give it 5 days and it will multiply by 400% and will be mature in 3-5 days?”
The answer is Sprouts. Anything can be sprouted, pulses, grains etc. but in India pulse sprouts are a part of the cuisine. Sprouts are also anti-aging because of the high amount of antioxidants found in them. Some of them are even known to fight against cancer.
Papaya
Christopher Columbas liked to call papaya “Fruit of The Angles“. Papaya is a pinkish-orange fruit with black seeds studded in the centre. What makes this fruit a superfood for skin is the nutritional value it provides to your body and skin. Papaya is rich in Vitamins like A, C, and some B ones as well. Minerals like potassium and magnesium are also found in Papaya.
Papaya is great for digestion as it contains an enzyme called papain and is a high source of soluble fibre. Papaya is rich in antioxidants and packs a good amount of beta-carotene. Hence, a perfect choice for giving you a naturally glowing skin.
Spinach
Personally, I like to call it the “Anti-Aging” vegetable. And that’s because Spinach is an excellent source of Vitamins A, C, and K, along with lutein and beta-carotene. It also contains flavonoids that are cancer-fighting agents.
The reason it’s so good for the skin is also because of carotenoids, that help balance skin’s natural oils. Riboflavin and magnesium amounts in spinach will help you fight acne while it’s vitamin contents fight diseases like eczema and other skin scaling diseases.
Watermelon
Called Xigua in Chinese and otherwise, you can call it your skin’s best friend. Sweet and juicy, with a low calorie and high nutritive value, has some of the world’s most powerful antioxidants. Because of the amounts of beta-carotene in this fruit, it’s also packed with Vitamin C and A.
A pink watermelon contains lycopene, and studies have suggested that lycopene is synergistic with green tea in the prevention of prostatic and ovarian related issues. Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant with properties (namely anti-aging) for promoting stronger, brighter and glowing skin.
Watermelon also has Vitamin B which is a great source of energy production.
Olives
Rich in Vitamin E, Iron, and Copper, olives come packed with good health. Vitamin E is essential for soft, smooth, and helps repair skin cells. Olives also contain phytonutrient compounds such as flavonoids and polyphenols, both of which have anti-inflammatory properties. Due to the high amount of vitamin E present in olives, they keep your skin moisturised and preserve your skin’s barrier.
Mango
An oval shaped fruit, commonly found in tropical countries, and has been called God’s own fruit. Mangoes come in vast varieties and are rich fibre, vitamins and beta-carotene. Mangoes have a large number of skin and health benefits. Vitamins A and E help to relieve clogged pores, whereas Vitamin C is one of the most powerful antioxidants for your skin.
Mangoes are also rich in iron, and can be great for those with anaemia. Mangoes are also great for pregnant women. And have anti-inflammatory properties.
Kidney Beans
They derive their name from their shape and are a protein powerhouse. Kidney beans are a very potent source high-quality protein which is essential for healthy skin and hair. Kidney beans are the perfect food for attaining naturally glowing skin as they also pack vitamins and minerals such as B-complex vitamins, calcium, magnesium, manganese, potassium, and molybdenum.
Eggs
When one wants a naturally glowing skin, eggs deliver. As simple as that. Eggs are a really great source of good quality protein. Eggs contain all Vitamins except Vitamin C. Compounds like carotenoids, lutein, zeaxanthin offers anti-aging properties and glow benefits on the skin. In addition, eggs contain a choline that has which has chemicals similar to B vitamins and is essential for cells to function properly, and has great effects on female hormone system.
Apart from that Eggs contain microelements like phosphorus, selenium and zinc that keep ageing at bay. Sulphur and iron maintain the health of your skin making it glow naturally. Eggs are also rich in Vitamin E that acts as a moisturiser and preserves your skin.
Capsicum
Has a variety of different colours and is known by different names in different places in the world.
For example Chilli pepper, Bell pepper and Green/Red/Yellow Pepper
Commonly used as a vegetable, spice and medicine in many places in the world. This vegetable has numerous health benefits. It is a good source of Vitamins A and C and is abundant in carotenoids (help in neutralizing free radicals that damage tissues and cells), various proteins and good fats.
Your skin and its mucous membranes will benefit greatly from the consumption of this vegetable. Capsicums are also great for increasing your body’s metabolic rate and aid weight loss. Thus, capsicum is an optimal choice of food that promotes naturally glowing skin.

Love the post! 🙂 Spinach is my favourite. Since I started eating it in large quantities, I noticed my skin holds the summer tan for several month longer. Before that I never even got tanned at all xD. I guess it’s the vitamin A and carotenoids that help in that regard.
You’re 100% correct! But it protects from sun damage 🙂 so no ageing 😀
Perfect. Such useful post. I eat sprouts and beetroot a lot 🙂
Thanks a lot, I eat a lot of sprouts as well. Unfortunately, the only time I consume beetroot is in juice form since otherwise I don’t like it very much.

Amazing post Jane, nothing helps from outside if the inside system is devoid of nutrients. I love eating spinach and sprouts….. Although beetroot I make a coconut beetroot barfi and eat it. As far as mangoes are concerned a hate eating them 🙁
Really? No mangoes? Why so? Is it because you don’t like the taste? And beetroot just makes me cringe. I didn’t want to add it because of my personal differences with beetroot, but I thought of professionalism and added it because it’s just for the skin.
I love eating most of products on your list. Now to act grownup and start adding the other veggies to my diet as well.
Haha! I love them as well. Except beetroot… That’s a no-no for me even if I pretend to be grown-up.
Very informative post, egg and mango are my favourite item from this list.
Egg and mango for me too, Subha 🙂
