The Blood Group Diet
There have been many controversies about whether the blood group of an individual has any impact on their diets resulting in weight loss or not. Dr. Peter D’Adamo, one of the nutritionist, holds an explanation for why some people lose weight quickly and easily. According to him, lectin (protein contained in food) are broken down by our bodies in different ways according to the blood type. Blood antigens are not just in our blood but all over our body, including the digestive tract and they react to the lectins in different blood group body type differently. In some these lectins may combine with the blood type antigen and cause agglutination of the blood causing headache, fatigue and issues related to digestive system.

Here’s what is recommended for you according to your Blood Group:

TYPE O – High protein diet
Diet for people with the Blood Group “O” should include more of lean meat, fish, vegetables, fruits and less of grains, beans and legumes. People with this blood type have a higher level of stomach acids and a well-developed ability to digest meal containing both fat and protein. They also have a tendency to have low levels of thyroid hormone which results in metabolic problems. So, for the purpose of weight loss foods like wheat, corns, kidney beans, lentils, cabbage, cauliflower and mustard greens (inhibit thyroid hormone) should be avoided while foods like broccoli, spinach, red meat, liver, salt, seafood (increase hormone production) should be included.
TYPE A – Vegetarian/Meat-free diet
Diet for people with the Blood Group “A” should include more of fresh and organic vegetables, fruits, grains, beans, legumes and tofu because people with this blood type have a sensitive immune system. For the purpose of weight loss foods like meat and dairy products should be avoided while foods like vegetables, pineapple, vegetable oil and soy foods should be included.
TYPE B – Balanced omnivorous diet
Diet for people with the Blood Group “B” should include a wide variety of low-fat dairy products, meat (No chicken), grains, beans, legumes, fruits and vegetables (Eliminate tomatoes completely as the cause irritation to the stomach lining). People with this blood type are prone to immune system disorders such as chronic fatigue syndrome. For the purpose of weight loss foods like Corn, lentil, peanuts, sesame seeds, buckwheat and wheat should be avoided while eggs, tea, licorice, liver and greens should be included.
TYPE AB – Mixed diet in moderation
Diet for people with the Blood Group “AB” should include foods like tofu, seafood, dairy, and green vegetables. People with such blood type tend to have low stomach acid and a weaker immune system. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and smoked or cured meats, and buckwheat while kelp, tofu, seafood, dairy and greens can be included for ensuring weight loss.
For best results of weight loss through blood type diet, engage in aerobic activity for 30-45 minutes for at least four times per week. To inhibit boredom, choose 2 or 3 different exercises and keep varying the routine.
Blood type diet makes recommendations solely on the basis of blood group and fails to address the conditions like cholesterol, diabetes, fluctuating blood pressure and heart diseases. It may also be expensive sometimes buying the organic foods and may require time to be spent in the kitchen because choices are limited based on the blood type.

I’ve never thought of avoiding foods because it may not suit me. I’ve never eaten certain foods because they don’t taste so good for my taste buds. 😀
Time to grow up I guess.
Hahaha! I will let you know, I’m blood type A and that means avoiding Dairy, which I absolutely love. But I have started doing this and it’s only been a week but I feel better. And it’s helping me shed off the extra pounds as well.
