Being fashionable often requires you to be bold. New styles and trends are just that— new. That can make them seem intimidating, especially if you are comfortable with your current style or are self-conscious about your body. It’s time to get past those fears and try some new fashion trends.
These 8 fashion trends are exciting. Modern fashion trends are also well-suited for women of all shapes and sizes. After all, you live in an era that touts embracing everyone and finding each person’s true beauty. If you step out of your comfort zone to try on these (actually very comfortable) trends, you will probably be delightfully surprised to learn that modern trends look amazing on you.
Trend #1: One-Piece Clothing
One of the biggest style and fashion trends in recent years is the one-piece outfit. Younger women are loving rompers, which are shorts and shirts sewn together. They fit well, are very comfortable, and are super cute in one pattern or split into two patterns.
Older women are enjoying the comeback of overalls as well as jumpsuits. Perfect for casual affairs and business dress alike, jumpsuits are comfortable and versatile. They also look great on most body types.
Trend #2: Victorian Era Necklines
Modern trends are largely based on throwbacks. For instance, Victorian era necklines are back in fashion hundreds of years later. A high cut neckline, the Victorian era style draws attention to the face while accentuating the body’s natural angles. This style can be dressed down by wearing casual bottoms, or dressed up in a classy one-piece or by wearing it with a nice skirt.
Trend #3: Peplums
Say what? Peplum is a word for a piece of cloth at the waistline that flares out. You’ve probably seen peplums everywhere and thought they were adorable, you just didn’t know what they were called. One of the most marvelous fashion trends, peplum-styled clothing should be in your closet. If you haven’t tried on any clothing with a peplum yet, there is no time to lose.
This centerpiece fabric has the power to make the rest of the body look slimmer and buttocks look rounder. It makes casual shirts chic and trendy. At the same time, it brings elegant outfits to a whole new level. Wear your peplums, ladies, and wear them proud.
Trend #4: Patterned Patchwork
Finally, shabby chic meets fashion. In interior design, modern trends are all about using different patterns and styles in one room with just a single unifying factor like a color scheme. The look is varied, dynamic, and intriguing. It also masks imperfections.
A patchwork patterned clothing has the same effect. Another retro trend that’s come back for a good reason, patchwork is in style because of the variety and fun flair it offers.
Trend #5: Ruffles
Having been revived throughout several periods in history, ruffles are once again in vogue. Easy to add, alter, and remove, ruffles just give a little oomph to otherwise drab and or overdone styles. Used on little girl’s clothing and for adult women, ruffles look great on anyone as long as they are strategically placed to highlight the body’s best features. When you dare to try on this lovable style, select a few different clothing items. Don’t discount the ruffles until you’ve seen them vertical, horizontal, angled, rounded, and placed at different points on your body. One of those specific ruffle designs is going to rock your wardrobe.
Trend #6: Leggings for All
Out with the tight-in-all-the-wrong places yoga pants. Bring in the leggings. Available in a variety of cuts, there are leggings out there that will flatter your natural shape. Best of all, they will be super comfortable.
You can wear leggings casually or formally. The trick to rocking this trend is simply to go bulky on top while leggings slim your bottom. A boxy, silky shirt and chunky necklace make leggings look hip and fancy. An oversized t-shirt with big sunglasses will make you the spitting image of comfortable and cute all in one.
Trend #7: Slip-On Shoes
Previously only trendy for grandmas, slip-on shoes are now being made more fashionable. Who needs the hassle of tying shoelaces or linking straps? Slip-on shoes with fashionable patterns or unique angles are cute and can even be worn professionally. Whether you’re looking for flat top sneaker styles of slip-ons or leather work slip on shoes, don’t worry about looking outdated. You’ll actually look super contemporary.
Trend #8: Floppy Hats
If you don’t own hats, you are missing out. Headwear has been trendy for centuries, accentuating faces and giving women an excuse to ignore their hair every so often for ages. Floppy hats are currently the most in style. With wide, loose brims, floppy hats convey confidence while actually being very comfortable and convenient.
