People with oily skin are well aware of the trauma’s they have to face many a times during breakouts on their faces, with pimples, acne, white heads, black heads, under-skin acne caused by accumulation of dirt and dust on the skin throughout the day and much more hiding their beautiful face.. As a person who has combination skin myself I have noticed I tend to stick more dirt and dust on my face, as compared to my friends who do not have oily or combination skin. Although, some presence of oil on the skin is normal for people in their youth, it’s fairly evident when your skin is “Oily” or “Combination”.
People with oily skin are more prone to acne, pimples and breakouts, when their skin is not handled appropriately, whereas, people with combination skin may experience acne, breakouts, pimples, white heads and blackheads concentrated in their T-Zone.
Fear not though, skin problems can be easily eradicated, all you need is around thirty minutes each day, that you can commit to yourself. And this article will help you combat all your oily/combination skin problems. So let’s get down to work. Here’s some steps for you to follow that won’t take more than thirty minutes in your heavily packed day, and help you get rid of your oily/combination skin problems:
1. Choosing the right Face Wash
This is always the most basic, and fundamental step to care for your skin. It is only through first, clearing the dirt and oil from your face that you can begin to treat your skin further. Always remember to cleanse your skin, before you decide to apply any lotion or cream, scrub, etc. on your face.
For the purpose of removing, oil and dirt from your face, you would need the right face wash for you, a face wash that suits the oily or combination skin type and is mild enough to not over-dry your skin, as this is that one product you will be using at least twice a day, if need be, even thrice. I would highly recommend using a SLS, Paraben-Free formulation, if it is all natural or herbal it’s even better because those things really help the condition of the skin and reduce impurities and other skin related problems if available in your area, you should try using The Forest Essentials Facial Cleanser. But, if you can’t get your hands on a all natural formulation then I would recommend using The Cetaphil: Cetyl Alchohol and Stearyl Alchohol Cleansing Lotion, it is made specially for sensitive skin and is very mild on the skin, yet it removes all impurities effectively.
2. Using an exfoliator once every week
While using a face wash is a step you would follow everyday, this step need only be repeated every 7 days. You need to clear off dead skin and other impurities like black heads etc. This is why you need a good exfoliating scrub and this way, you would ensure your skin looks fresh and not dull as the dead skin and other impurities come undone by proper scrubbing.
You may use any scrub of your choice, and one that suits you but I would recommend it to be SLS and Paraben-Free. If you can get your hands on something with 100% natural and herbal it’s great but, really anything that’s mild enough and suits you well will do the job.
One thing worth mentioning here is your technique to go about scrubbing your face, the direction and application is very important here. You want to gently, using your finger-tips give both upwards and circular motions while scrubbing. Your focus of application should be your T-Zone and maybe once in a while your whole face. You don’t want to pull the skin on your face in a downward motion as it may make your skin saggy and wrinkly before time. I would recommend using a scrub that has walnut or apricot in its ingredients.
3. Using a Face Mask/Masque
Applying masks on your skin helps in rejuvenating the skin from all the wear and tear it goes through. Think of it as a deep conditioning treatment you do every once in a while for your hair. While your skin isn’t dead like your hair and is capable of self-healing, it doesn’t hurt to accelerate the process, does it?
But that’s not all that goes for using a face mask, it also ensures that the skin is nourished, and healed after damage from the sun, pollution etc. Using masks can also prevent breakouts, frequent return of black heads, white heads etc.
Yet again, my advice would be to go for some sort of product that’s either less chemically laden or something natural and therapeutic. Thus I would recommend using Lacto Calamine as a face mask. However, if you already have found the best face mask for yourself and it suits you well then you should use that. Remember, it is best if your mask is free from parabens. Since, using a face mask is not an everyday affair, I would advice you to do it once every 15 days.
4. Moisturise!
I must inform you, how important this step is, and just as important as this step is it is very easy to forget it and just laze around this one. But no. You need to properly moisturise your skin, if you want to stay hydrated, glowing and healthy, you should moisturise it daily before going to bed, applying a moisturiser during day time may mean for us oily and combination skin people as if we’re inviting greasiness in our life. Find a good moisturiser that suits you, and then use it.
My recommendation, from personal experience is Lacto Calamine, it works wonders for oily skin, I’ve experienced it myself, other than that you can use Cetaphil Moisturising lotion for the same.
Optional: You may or may not like to use a toner, in your skin care routine, personally I don’t use toners. Same goes for peel-off masks and cleansing milks out there in the markets. I feel that those may be essential for some people but I have simply never felt the need to use them, as for me, following the above steps gives me healthy and glowing skin free from acne and breakouts.
Caution: You should always be careful, when applying any product, whether it’s a mask, scrub, face wash etc. to always avoid the area around your eyes.
So I hope this article has helped you, honestly it doesn’t take more than thirty minutes to squeeze this routine in your busy day, but I’m sure following these steps will definitely help you get your dream skin, free from acne, pimples and breakouts.
