Quick Review:
Question: So, what’s so good about this product?
Answer:
It has a light feel formula which makes your skin feel fresh and does not make it oily.
It gets absorbed into skin really fast without any hassle.
It is moderately priced, and is quite affordable.
Over time, with varied results, it may make your skin notably lighter in tone than before and/or reverse the sunburn you previously had.
Can be used as 2 in 1 product as it moisturises the skin as well as protects it from sunburn.
It has Cucumber and Lemon Grass Extracts, both of which are proven to be your skin’s good friends. Cucumbers are really good for making you feel refreshed, and are packed with vitamins B1, B2, B3 etc which are all good for the skin, and Lemongrass is anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, fungicidal and has many other good qualities like being a good astringent, along with pore minimising qualities.
Good for all skin types.
Question: So is there anything not to like in this product?
Answer:
It has Parabens, which essentially is not good for you. With varied types of Parabens, many debates have come up as to their effects on skin etc. So I for one, try to avoid this particular ingredient in the products I use.
It’s effectiveness during long hours of sun exposure wears down. For example: n summers, it may not be as effective, as it will be in winters.
The need to re-apply this sunscreen when you are out in the sun for longer hours, is both inevitable and annoying/irritating.
Result:
I found this product to be ideal for use in winters, and it can be used both on face as well as body. In winters, this product is amazing, but if you are thinking of buying it for summers, you will need to re-apply frequently, specially if you are a person who spends on an average, more than two hours outside in the heat/sun.
The good thing though, is that the problem of re-application will only be seen in case of your body, meaning, applying it once on your face during summertime is enough, unless you wash your face, or sweat excessively. Which I thought to be a strange thing, for a product to be working differently on face and body during summers.
What I really liked about this product was that it catered to the needs of all skin types, for someone with dry skin, it acts as a good moisturiser and has skin-conditioning agents present in it’s ingredients, for someone with oily skin it has Lemon grass extracts, reducing oil production and shine (One that comes from oil production on skin), and needless to say, it is also good for those with combination skin, as it will moisturise your dry areas and control oil in your T-Zone.
Question: What not to expect from this Product?
Answer
Do not expect this product to make your skin shades lighter. It won’t.
Avobenzone is a common sunscreen ingredient and offer protection from UVA Rays, however, this ingredient tends to loose effectiveness when exposed to long hours of sun. Thus, you cannot just apply once, and think that it has you covered. Re-Application will be needed in times when your sun exposure is more than average.
Detailed Review
Before I say anything else, I’ll give you some information on the test subject of this review, that is me (JB). Frankly, I get tanned really easily. I live in India, Delhi so to speak and the summers and the heat is just cruel. I cannot even think about leaving the house without any sunscreen on. Sadly, I am still on the lookout for a sunscreen that will suit my needs. But that does not mean that this product is no good. Here, in India Neutrogena is expensive for a student who survives on pocket money and no other source of income, or any other brand that offers higher SPF. So I ended up buying this product.
It took me 4 and a half months to form my opinions on it, and two 120mL bottles of this product.
My Verdict
Summers:
Face: I absolutely loved it’s work on my face. When I did not feel like putting on a BB or CC cream or make-up that had SPF in it on my face, it did the job. No sunburns at all, even when I was out long under the sun. I was in love with it.
Body: Now this is where I was let down. I spend most of the day outdoors, and under the sun, and every time I came back home, my feet, hands or anything else that was not covered by clothes was sun burnt, not as much as it would without any sunscreen on, but still enough to notice that it was a sunburn. This though, as I soon found out was because one application throughout the day was not enough. I had to apply it twice daily and sometimes even thrice, but that solved my sunburn problem, only to make one 120mL bottle finish up, in one month.
Winters:
Face: As if I’ve nod said it enough already, It was amazing in winters. It moisturised my skin too, since my skin gets dry in winters. And no matter how long I was out, I stayed sunburn-free.
Body: Since the sun is not at it’s best in burning your skin in winters, I had no complaints to make. Just applying it once, and it had my back all day long. My second bottle that I bought in winters lasted me two full months. And what surprised me was that the little bit of tan I had from summers, had gone back to normal. I am convinced it was because of this product, because I did nothing else apart from apply this regularly (Nope, no tan removal stuff at all). So I have reasons to believe that it may also make your skin at most, a shade lighter. But in most cases, the difference in the tone of your skin will not be noticeable.
Question: Will I Buy It Again?
Answer: No, because I like to stay away from parabens and because re-applying the sunscreen when I’m out shopping is not really possible.
Question: Do I Recommend It?
Answer:
Yes: To people who want to use it in winters, as I think this product is ideal for winters. And to those who are looking for a cheaper/affordable sunscreen. In case of winters, the 120mL bottle lasted me, two months which means Rs. 4.50 ($0.07) (0.04 GBP) per day. That’s fairly cheap I’d say.
No: To people who like to stay away from Parabens, to people who think they will get shades lighter by using this product, or hate having to re-apply sunscreens all day long, I mean thrice a day? That’s just too much.
