Quick Review:

Question: So what’s so good about this product?

Answer:

  1. It does not have Acetone in it.
  2. It contains D-Panthenol (Vitamin B5) which is great for the skin, and keeps it moisturised.
  3. It contains protein, to keep your nails from cracking and becoming brittle.

Question: And what are the things I should know before using this product?

Answer:

  1. Nail Polish Removers, by nature are harsh on the skin. This is so because they are made to dissolve the otherwise difficult to remove nail polish from our nails.
  2. Even though, this nail polish remover is acetone free, it still has many other solvents that are harsh on the skin, and will make the skin dry with regular use.
  3. There are not many natural alternatives available out there to substitute a nail polish remover. This particular product, is a mild version of a nail polish remover, as it does not have acetone.

Result: As there are not many alternative methods available to remove nail polish, the most accepted one is using a nail polish remover. There are a lot of chemicals used to make this product and sadly so they are all important. What I do like about this particular nail polish remover is that it has skin-conditioning agents, vitamin B5 and protein so it does not make your skin feel all dried out after use.

The best you can do, to cope up with the usual harshness of any nail polish remover is to wash hands after using it to remove the nail polish and moisturising them properly.

Detailed Review

Question: What is Acetone?

Answer: Acetone is a solvent, all nail polish removers need a solvent which helps in dissolving the hard film left on the nails with the nail polish’s ingredients. The ingredients in nail polish work to give a nice and even coat which is hard to remove.

  1. Acetone is the most powerful and the best solvent to remove nail polish, apart from that it is also very harsh and drying to the skin, nails and cuticles.
  2. Due to the same harshness, you may even see white residue on your skin after using a very harsh nail polish remover. This means you have dried out your skin.
  3. Also women with cracked/split nails, should absolutely, avoid using a nail polish remover with acetone, as compared to other solvents, it works better but is harsher.

Question: The Colorbar USA Nail Enamel Remover does not have Acetone, so is it better and not drying to my skin?

Answer: Definitely, this product is not as exacting as a product with acetone in it might be, but that does not mean that it does not dry out your skin. Other solvents too, are not good for your skin and have the constant drying effect on your skin, nail and cuticles.

The good thing is, that this has Vitamin B5, and protein and some skin-conditioning agents, which do help counter the skin-drying effects of the harsh solvents. Nonetheless, even then, it is advisable that you use as little of this product you can on the cotton pad to remove the nail lacquer. Being a nail enamel remover, it is still a chemically harsh product.

Question: What solvents are present in this product?

Answer:

Ethyl Acetate: It may cause skin irritation, repeated or prolonged exposure may cause drying and cracking of the skin. It is a solvent used in place of acetone as an active ingredient as it is comparatively less harsh.

Isopropyl Alcohol: It is a miscible solvent, particularly effective in removing acrylic and epoxy resins. (Resins are found in Nail Polishes)

Propyl Glycol: It serves as a solvent, and is used in place of glycerine as it is cheaper. It is a moisture-carrying agent.

Methyl Ethyl Ketone: Is also a solvent used in nail polish removers.

Question: Is there anything I can do to reverse the damaging effect of a Nail Polish Remove on my skin?

Answer: The good thing about this nail enamel remover is that it does carry amounts of skin-conditioning agents such as Isopropyl Mysristate, Lanolin Oil, D-Panthenol (Vitamin B5) so as to lessen the effects of dryness caused by solvents on the skin/nails/cuticles.

Other things you can do to ensure that your skin does not suffer are:

  1. Wash your hands immediately after using Nail Polish Removers.
  2. Properly moisturise your hands post-cleaning them with a cleanser (Washing them).
  3. Use as less of this product you can to remove as much of an enamel as possible.

Question: Will I buy it again?

Answer: Yes, comparatively, I believe that this is less harsh and milder than other nail polish removers. And it contains some excellent moisturising ingredients as well.

Question: Do I recommend it?

Answer: Yes, because I believe that, it is better than the other nail polish removers out there and it doesn’t dry out my skin much.
