Know Your Prints
Picking the correct print pattern for your body type and needs just got easier with this brief and to the point guide.
STRIPES
- Vertical Stripes: They add to the illusion of length or height and make the body appear more taller and slender.
- Horizontal Stripes: They emphasize width thereby making a figure appear broader and short.
- Diagonal Stripes: A bit more tricky to use, they may give a slenderizing or a broadening effect depending upon their angle and slant. If a diagonal line is more vertical they slenderize the figure and if on the other hand they are more horizontal they broaden the appearance of the figure.
POLKA DOTS
Slimming When:
1. Smaller in size.
2. On a darker background with less dots per inch square.
3. Placed vertically or diagonally.
4. Low contrast between the colour of dots and the background
colour.
Broadening When:
1.Bigger in size.
2. On a lighter background with less dots per inch square.
3. Placed Horizontally.
4. High contrast between the colour of dots and the background
colour.
MOTIF PRINTS
Example: Paisley, flowers, symbols, etc.
- Large Motif Prints: They make the surface area appear wide and thus broaden the appearance of the figure.
- Small Motif Prints: They make the frame appear smaller as a wide surface area is not utilized. Thereby making the figure appear slender.
